MediClicker
BORMIOLI
Smart Dosing, Made Simple.
A Connected Pill Dispenser Designed to Improve Medication Adherence with Precision, Portability, and Peace of Mind.
The Product
MediClicker is a smart, app-connected pill dispensing cap designed to screw directly onto standard medication bottles. By combining mechanical dosing precision with IoT functionality, the device ensures that tablets or micro-tablets are delivered in the right quantity, at the right time. Users receive mobile alerts when it’s time to take their dose, and dispense tablets one by one with a simple side button press—each pill counted and tracked through an integrated infrared sensor. The transparent pill collector doubles as both a visual cue and a hygienic dispenser tray.
With a built-in lockout mechanism and real-time sync with a companion app, MediClicker offers reassurance to patients, caregivers, and medical professionals alike. Its compact design makes it easy to carry and operate with one hand, while the matte-finished body ensures grip and a modern medical aesthetic.
The Process
The challenge was to design a low-cost, user-friendly device that integrates advanced features typically reserved for premium health tech. The product needed to adapt to a wide range of tablet sizes (2–5mm), remain mechanically reliable across repeated uses, and function seamlessly in environments ranging from hospitals to homes. A major design goal was balancing the mechanical complexity of accurate pill dispensing with the need for ease of use and manufacturability via injection moulding.
From engineering a spring-loaded dosing mechanism that avoids crushing pills, to ensuring secure Bluetooth communication and intuitive UX, every design decision aimed to improve medication adherence without adding friction to the user’s daily routine. The result is a compact and thoughtful solution that empowers users to take control of their health—whether independently or with caregiver support.
