Exoskeleton_skin

Valkyrie Industries

A Virtual Reality garment kit that enables users to experience hyper-realistic physical feedback.

Exoskeleton_skin is a patented wearable tool invented by Valkyrie Industries. This VR tool integrates a highly complex bill of electronics to enable the tracking of human motion, providing instant physical feedback and enabling users to experience the virtual world in the most realistic way possible.

The Process

We integrated into a dynamic team of specialists in software, electronics and garment design to develop the equipment which aims to provide VR tracking and electro-stimulation through the sleeves and gloves of the garment.

In close collaboration with the former Patagonia designer Piers Thomas, we helped create a layer-based fabric with embedded electrodes accurately distributed alongside the muscles of the wearer. We have also designed and developed a unique mechanism to provide high-resolution fingertip sensations whilst allowing for comfortable object manipulation.

Electronic Development

There are a number of electronic control boards and tracking sensors distributed throughout the arms and hands. We developed and built the housings with electrical connections for easy and fast disassembly so that all components can be stored, cleaned and repaired more easily.

The work was performed through a number of iterations. We made effective and constant use of rapid-prototyping and highly detailed manual model-making methods to achieve a fully functional product to help the London-based startup achieve its next rounds of investment.
